History

The first Porsche Boxster (internal code 986) appeared in 1996 (V range) with a water-cooled 2.5-litre six-cylinder engine with 150 kW (204 hp) and was considered the successor to the classic Porsche 550 "Spyder" from the 1950s. It contained many components of the Porsche 911 (model 996), which appeared one year later, which initially brought Porsche much criticism due to a lack of differentiation. With an entry-level price of 76,500 DM (approx. 39,100 Euro) he attracted new customers to the brand and started the boom years of Porsche in the mid/late 1990s.

What set the Boxster apart from its competitors when it appeared was the relatively large amount of space available. Thanks to its mid-engine concept, it has a boot at the front and a boot at the rear. The standard electrically operated soft top has space in a soft top box above the engine; at first it could only be opened and closed when stationary. Criticism was levelled at the unusual appearance of the lighting units, which quickly got the nickname Spiegeleier-Leuchten.

In 1997 a part of the Boxster production was outsourced to the Finnish company Valmet Automotive based in Uusikaupunki. In fiscal 2000/2001 (Jan. 31), 23,294 of a total of 28,457 Boxster and Boxster S models were produced in Uusikaupunki. The contract with Valmet initially ran until 2004 and was then extended until 2008 with an option for an extended partnership until 2011. 109,213 first-generation Boxsters were produced in Finland from 1997 to 2004. The chassis number indicates the production locations of the vehicles: a U (Uusikaupunki) or S (Stuttgart) in front of the following six-digit number indicates the Finnish or German origin.

In 2000, the entry-level Boxster was fitted with a 2.7-litre enlarged engine, which now produced 162 kW (220 hp). In addition, the series was expanded to include the Boxster S with a 3.2-litre 185 kW (252 hp) engine, which accelerated the Boxster from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Even before the model change to the 987, the Boxster underwent a final facelift and an increase in performance thanks to the new Motronic and VarioCam: The Boxster now had 168 kW (228 PS), the Boxster S 191 kW (260 PS).

In model year 2004 there was the special anniversary model "50 Years 550 Spyder", which was limited to 1953 units, of which 372 vehicles came onto the German market. The anniversary model was delivered exclusively in the GT-silbermetallic colour developed for the Carrera GT, while the interior is dominated by leather in the new Cocoa colour, which also carries the soft top. As an alternative, anthracite leather and a black top could be chosen. With 987 technology, the anniversary model achieves 195 kW (266 hp) and an increased top speed of 266 km/h. The car is also equipped with an anthracite leather top and a black hood. The basic price of the special model, already equipped with extensive extras, was 59,192 Euros.

Second-hand non-smoking vehicle in top condition.
